From the Philippine News Agency (Jun 7): Suspected ASG bandits seize 9-year-old boy in Jolo

Government troops were deployed to track down and possibly rescue a nine-year-old boy seized Tuesday night by suspected Abu Sayyaf bandits in Jolo, Sulu.

The Jolo police identified the victim as Deany Rey Tan, a Grade 4 pupil of Mohammad Tulawie Elementary School.

The police said the victim was seized by three unidentified gunmen around 7:45 p.m. Tuesday in Barangay San Raymundo, Jolo, Sulu.

Initial investigation showed the gunmen knocked, immediately barged in, then grabbed the victim and fled on board a waiting motorcycle.

The police said the suspects sped towards Barangay Latih in Patikul, Sulu.

The police said the suspects are believed to be followers of a certain Sajirin, who belongs to the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG).
