73IB recovers arms cache, high-powered firearms in Malita

From the Philippine Information Agency (Jun 3): 73IB recovers arms cache, high-powered firearms in Malita

Troops from 73rd Infantry Battalion unearthed on Thursday morning (June 1), an arm cache believed to belong to the New People’s Army of Guerilla Front 71, Far South Mindanao Regional Command.

With the help of a former NPA rebel who surrendered to the unit, the 73IB troops discovered the said cache in the hinterlands of Barangay Pangaleon in the municipality of Malita.

Seized firearms included one (1) M16 rifle, one (1) Springfield Garand rifle, two (2) Caliber 30 M1 Carbine and one (1) M203 Grenade Launcher.

“The rebels were on the run and have no choice but to hide their firearms to cover themselves as civilians,” said 73IB Commander Lt. Col. Marion Angcao.

“With the discovery of these high-powered firearms, the NPA’s capability would definitely be depleted. Not with standing, we are still encouraging them to lay down their arms and surrender themselves peacefully to the law and avail the Comprehensive Local Integration Program (CLIP),” Angcao stated.
