From the Philippine News Agency (May 16): Soldiers kill NPA rebel in Kalinga

The Armed Forces of the Philippines killed a member of the New People's Army (NPA) and recovered his high-powered firearm in a four-day military operation in Balbalan town, Kalinga.

Lieutenant Colonel Gulliver Señires, 50th Infantry Battalion Commander, said Tuesday the military clashed with the NPA rebels in Barangay Balbalasang, Balbalan on May 13.

The soldiers, led by 2nd Lieutenant Julius Tecson, killed Rudy Miguel, also known as “Marcial," “Dek” and “Alay.”

Army personnel recovered a rifle and two magazines containing 46 rounds of 5.56mm ammunition from the dead NPA rebel, he said.

On May 10, Señires said that Tecson’s group seized two NPA camps in Balbasan town.

Pfc. Rovin Managuelod suffered a minor injury on his right thigh in the course of the four-day military operation.

Managuelod is currently recuperating at the Camp Melchor Dela Cruz Station Hospital in Gamu, Isabela.
