From the Philippine News Agency (May 21): Rebel killed in Oriental Mindoro clash

A New People’s Army (NPA) member was killed in a clash with government troops at a sub-village If-If, Barangay Cambunang, Bulalacao, Oriental Mindoro early Sunday morning.

Reports reaching the camp here said, the 2ID’s 4th Infantry Battalion conducted the combat operations against the subversives after receiving a tip from concerned residents.

Military troops clashed with around 10 NPAs who were believed to members of Platoon Olip, KLG Roque around 5:30 a.m. on Sunday.

During the five-minute skirmish with military troops, the rebels scampered in different directions leaving their slain male comrade who is yet to be identified.

The troops also recovered one 9 mm pistol, nine 9mm live ammunitions, two magazines of 9 mm, a hand grenade and assorted ammunitions.

No casualty was reported from the government side.

As of press time, army troopers continue to scour the area while pursuing the fleeing enemies.

Major General Rhoderick Parayno, commander of the 2nd Infantry Division (2ID)- Philippine Army, has applauded the troops “for a very successful operation and urged the armed rebels to lay down their arms and return to the fold of law as people no longer support them.”

Parayno underscored that the army command will go after the rebels who will not stop at committing terror acts that inflict damage and sow fear among the civilians and communities.

He urged that “it would be best if the NPAs live in peace, be counted as productive citizens and enjoy the fruits of a developing community.”
