PNP-IAS probes slay of arrested ASG member in Bohol

From the Philippine News Agency (May 9): PNP-IAS probes slay of arrested ASG member in Bohol

The Philippine National Police Internal Affairs Service (PNP-IAS) is now investigating the killing of Abu Saad, the arrested Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) member in Bohol province.

PNP Public Information Office (PNP-PIO) chief and spokesman Chief Supt. Dionardo Carlos disclosed this on Tuesday after a report from the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) came out stating that Saad was allegedly shot in the head "point blank".

Carlos said the PNP welcomes the investigation of the CHR, however, he assured that the PNP is conducting its own investigation.

It is important to know, Carlos said, if there were lapses on the part of the policemen and if there was a violation of the law, they should be held liable.

Saad was among the three ASG members who were able to escape after the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the PNP successfully "intercepted" the attempt of the group to enter Inabanga, Bohol last month.

Saad was captured alive last May 4, but he was killed the following day after he allegedly escaped from his police escorts while he was being transferred to the Bohol district jail and tried to grab a gun from one of the pursuing policemen.
