The chair of the Regional Peace and Order Council (RPOC) in Davao region condemned the attacks staged by the communist New People’s Army (NPA) rebels at the facilities of Lapanday Foods Corporation (LFC).

RPOC chair and Compostela Valley Governor Jayvee Tyon Uy on Monday said the series of attacks last Saturday only brought fears and insecurity among the residents where the attacks occurred.

Uy lamented the fact that the attacks took place while the country is hosting the Association of South East Asian Nation (ASEAN) Summit.

“We sympathize with the victims of these attacks, especially the civilians in the affected areas,” Uy said in a press statement released Monday.

LFC on Sunday said hundreds of workers, including their partners, will be affected due to the destruction of their facilities.

The NPAs burned on Saturday two facilities of LFC – one, its box plant in Mandug and the other, the Macondry Plastic Plant in Panabo City. They also attacked Lorenzo Farms in Calinan, Davao City.

“These attacks will not bring us to the realization of peace and order and the delivery of services, implementation of development programs and projects to our people,” Uy said.

The RPOC chair also expressed concern the NPA attacks will affect the peace talks with the government.
