Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio on Wednesday directed the police and the military to step up security measures in the city after authorities foiled a bomb plot by alleged members of the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG).

The mayor urged the police and the military to craft a holistic plan to further ensure the safety and security of people in the city.

On Tuesday, the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) tracked down a suspected terrorist. The suspect was killed after shooting it out with police operatives along Magtuod road in Maa, this city. The suspect was identified as alias "Bin Ladin." Two of his companions,identified only as "Saqdat" and "Omar" have escaped the police dragnet.

Aside from the improvised explosive device, police operatives also recovered from Bin Ladin a hand grenade, detonation cord, two pieces of blasting caps and a cal. 38 pistol.

"I told them to come up with a holistic plan to address the concern of terrorism and to ensure that the people are safe," the mayor said.

Based on their investigation, DCPO director Senior Superintendent Alexander Tagum said the suspect came from either Basilan or Sulu.

Benito De Leon, chief of the Davao City Public Safety and Security Command Center, said the mayor wants a review of the city’s security protocol to prevent similar incidents in the future.
