The NPA raided the Maddela Police Station in Quirino Province on April 29, 10:00 pm, disarming police of six M-16 rifles and four 9mm service pistols.
The Red fighters successfully took the policemen by surprise and rendered them immobile, except for Police Officer 2 Jerome Cardenas who attempted to open fire. He was taken to the hospital but died.
The station commander, Chief Insp. Jhun Jhun Balisi, was not in the station even while supposedly on-duty. He has since been relieved from his post.
