Chinese firm expresses intent to sell military equipment to Philippines

From Update Philippines (May 15): Chinese firm expresses intent to sell military equipment to Philippines

Chinese defense manufacturing company Poly Technologies conducted a courtesy call on President Rodrigo Duterte May 14, Sunday in Beijing, China. During the meeting the Chinese firm offered different types defense equipment for Philippine security forces.

“I was present during the Poly call on the President and what we discussed was, we will be signing tomorrow (Monday, May 15) a document on intent, intent only,” Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana said as quoted by GMA News Online.

“We are not saying that we will buy from them or we will not buy from them but if we need anything from the Chinese defense industry then we’re going to procure using the loan that they are going to offer to us,” Lorenzana added.

China, in December, has offered $500 Million worth of military equipment in long-term soft loan.
The Chinese government also offered $14.3 million worth of military aid which consists of small arms and fast boats.

Secretary Lorenzana said Philippines can get military equipment from China. “We should separate our dispute in the South China sea, from our relationship with the Chinese.”
