From the Philippine News Agency (May 16): 350 Army troops deployed for 'Brigada Eskwela' in Metro Manila

With public school opening just a few weeks away, the Philippine Army (PA) on Tuesday announced it has deployed 350 soldiers to help in the ongoing "Brigada Ekswela" activities in 38 schools in Metro Manila.

"Brigada Eskwela" formally started on May 15 and will end on the 20th.

PA spokesperson Lt. Col. Ray Tiongson said these troops will help teachers and parents in minor repairs, repainting, and cleaning of schools.

Depending on the situation, the soldiers can also assist in masonry, carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical and other services.

"Brigada Eskwela, also known as the National Schools Maintenance Program, is a yearly project of the Department of Education.

It's theme this year is “Isang DepEd, Isang Pamayanan, Isang Bayanihan Para sa Handa at Ligtas na Paaralan.”
