From the Philippine News Agency (Apr 19): Suspected ASG killed, 34 others bagged in law enforcement ops in Sulu

Fulfilling their law enforcement role, troopers from the Joint Task Force Sulu have shot and killed a suspected Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) bandit and arrested 34 other drug suspects in a joint operation with police in Patikul Wednesday early morning.

This took place 4 a.m., according to Joint Task Force Sulu commander Brig. Gen. Cirilito Sobejana.

Troops from the 45th Infantry Battalion conducted the operation at Barangay Danag, of the above-mentioned town.

Sobejana said his men were aiding local police officers in the serving of search and arrest warrants against a known drug enclave in the area when a short firefight took place, killing a suspected ASG bandit and captured of 34 suspects, of which 33 are male and one female.

A trooper identified as one Cpl. Maramat was hit in the gallbladder in this 15 minute encounter, he added.

The former is now in stable condition while the slain bandit was identified as Jah Adul.

Also recovered were an M-16 automatic rifle, three .45 caliber pistols, assorted drug paraphernalias and three large heat-sealed satchets containing suspected shabu along with five grenades.
