PNP now on 'full alert' status for 30th ASEAN Summit

From the Philippine News Agency (Apr 24): PNP now on 'full alert' status for 30th ASEAN Summit

Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Ronald "Bato" Dela Rosa placed the entire 165,000-strong police force on "full-alert" status effective Monday for the 30th Association Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit to be held from April 26-29, 2017 at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) in Pasay City.

During the flag-raising ceremony in Camp Crame, Quezon City, Dela Rosa also ordered the "regular auditing" of PNP personnel to make sure that there is sufficient personnel that can be deployed if needed for the ASEAN Summit.

He explained that it is necessary to be ready for any eventuality, especially that the ASEAN Summit is considered as a "major event".

Meanwhile, the "send-off ceremony" for the 41,000 multi-agency contingents for the ASEAN Summit was held on Sunday wherein more than 27,000 PNP personnel were deployed in various task groups, as well as "close-in VIP security" for the delegates, to secure the route security at the airport, in the places where the delegates will be billeted and the venue of the event.
