Gov't troops, suspected Abu Sayyaf clash in Bohol

From the Philippine News Agency (Apr 11): Gov't troops, suspected Abu Sayyaf clash in Bohol

The 47th Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army and suspected members of the notorious kidnap-for-ransom Abu Sayyaf group clashed early Tuesday in Inabanga, Bohol.

Authorities are still confirming reports of casualties as firefight continues, an Army intelligence source said.

This came following intelligence reports over the weekend of the presence of the Abu Sayyaf in the Visayas, purportedly to carry out kidnap activities but with no specific targets.

Security measures have been stepped up in many areas in the Visayas, including Negros Oriental and Siquijor following the reports.

The encounter came as Bohol prepares for the upcoming ASEAN Summit meetings scheduled there this month onwards.
