From the Philippine Information Agency (Apr 25): Army scores, recovers high powered ammos

As the government troops continue to secure Samar, members of the 87th Infantry (Hinirang) Battalion encountered an  armed group at Sitio Ogbok, Barangay Villa Aurora, Basey, Samar on April 18, 2017.

An exchange of fire ensued, after some time, as the suspected NPAs escaped, the government troops recovered two (2) 5.56mm M16A1 Rifles with SN 033681 and 9021623; one (1) magazine assembly (30 rounds) steel; one (1) magazine assembly (30 rounds) plastic; one (1) magazine assembly (20 rounds) steel and 48 rounds of 5.56mm ammunition.

A day after, on April 19, 2017, troops from the same battalion, the 87th IB while conducting a reconnaissance patrol within their area of operation encountered another batch of armed men, believed to be NPAS in Barangay Borong, Calbiga, Samar.  This resulted also to the recovery of one (1) M16A1 Rifle.

To achieve lasting peace and development, the army in Eastern Visayas is calling all stakeholders and the general public to support the government forces in fighting the insurgents.

Everyone is encouraged to report to any military unit NPA sightings.

The 8th Infantry Division will conduct massive combat operation to deter lawless elements against our peace-loving people in Eastern Visayas,  8th Infantry Division, Division Public Affairs Office (DPAO) declared.
