From the Philippine News Agency (Mar 22): N. Cotabato militiaman arrested for shooting dead military supervisor

Cops arrested a militiaman here for shooting dead on Tuesday night his supervising military officer inside their detachment in Barangay Labuo.

Lt. Silver Belviz, operations officer of the Army’s 39th Infantry Battalion, identified the victim as Corporal Michael Todenio, 48, a resident of Davao City and assigned with the Army’s 72nd Company.

The suspect was identified as Noli Cabaya, 47, a member of the Citizen Armed Forces Geographical Unit (CAFGU) residing in Barangay Tuael, this town.

Police probers said that at around 6 p.m. Tuesday, Todenio, as detachment commander, reprimanded Cabaya due to the latter’s irregular attendance. It led to a heated argument that triggered the shooting incident.

Todenio sustained fatal gunshot wounds from the M1 Garand rifle issued to the suspect.

The victim was brought to a local hospital but was declared dead on arrival by doctors.

The suspect fled but was later arrested by pursuing authorities at his residence.
