From the Philippine News Agency (Mar 27): Gunmen shot ‘aerial spray’ plane of banana firm in Surigao del Sur

Unidentified gunmen shot a Cezna plane conducting an aerial spraying at a banana plantation of Sumifru Philippines Corp in Surigao del Sur province, a belated police report reaching here Monday said.

The gunmen fired at the plane while it was spraying fertilizer at the firm's banana plantation at Sitio Gruto, Barangay Malixi in Tagbina town at around 7 a.m Sunday, the report reaching Camp Rafael C. Rodriguez, the regional police headquarters here, said.

The firm's security guards reported the incident to the Tagbina police station, the report said.

The plane's pilot, identified only as Captain Magbanua, was able to maneuver the aircraft back to its hangar at Barangay Sta. Fe in Tagbina town, it added.

Three bullets pierced the plane, the report said.

Police investigators have yet to identify the suspects and the motive for the shooting.
