From the Philippine News Agency (Feb 15): NPAs seize militiaman in Davao Oriental
A member of the Special Civilian Armed Auxiliary (SCAA) was seized by New People’s Army (NPA) rebels in a checkpoint set up by more or less 30 armed guerillas in Purok Upper Waywayan, Barangay Don Mariano, Lupon, Davao Oriental Tuesday.
Capt. Rhyan Batchar, spokesperson of the 10th Infantry Division, identified the abducted militiaman as Rene C. Doller, who was assigned at 1st Platoon, 4th CAAC, Davao Oriental, Ligadan Detachment in South Ligadan, Barangay Don Enrique Lopez, Mati City. His motorcycle was burned by the rebels, Batchar said.
This developed as the troops from the 28th Infantry Battalion engaged NPA rebels in a clash in Purok 2 in Barangay New Visayas, Lupon, Davao Oriental earlier on Tuesday.
Batchar said no casualty was reported from the military side but the NPA may have suffered the same based on the blood stains seen in the area.
Batchar said after an hour of encounter, the troops took from the area 40 backpacks, medical paraphernalia, several personal belongings and subversive documents left by the fleeing NPA rebels.
