German hostage beheaded by ASG

From Tempo (Feb 27): German hostage beheaded by ASG

The Abu Sayyaf Group beheaded German hostage Jurgen Gustav Kantner at about 3:30 p.m. yesterday in a forested area in Sitio Talibang, Barangay Buanza, Indanan, Sulu.

A highly placed police source in Sulu said ASG sub-leader Muammar Askali, alias “Abu Rami,” led the beheading of Kantner.

The source said the ASG decided to behead the 70-year-old Kantner after his family failed to pay a P500-million ransom for his freedom.

The source said police are now locating the body and head of Kantner.

The spokesperson of the Armed Forces of the Philippines-Western Mindanao Command said that they have yet to receive an official report stating that Kantner has been beheaded.

“We have not yet received an official report as of this time. Also, based on our monitoring, the Abu Sayyaf has also yet to give a statement on the incident. Kahit video ng nagsasabi ng pagpugot wala,” Capt. Jo-Ann Petinglay, said.

A military official said they received information on the beheading and currently validating it. He said that he has met local officials in Indanan to verify the information.
