NPA burns dump truck

From the Mindanao Times (Feb 25): NPA burns dump truck

A DUMPTRUCK of a mining company was torched by the New People’s Army (NPA) rebels in Pantukan, Compostela Valley on Wednesday.

Lt. Eric Hernandez, the civil-military operations (CMO) officer of the army’s 46th Infantry Battalion, said Rogelio Gerona, driver of Hexat Mining Company, was driving the company’s 10-wheeler cargo truck from the mining camp in Sitio Diat Dos, Barangay Napnapan, Pantukan to their mining plant in Barangay Pandapan, Tagum City, Davao del Norte.

Armed men, on board three motorcycles, flagged down the truck at Purok 7 (Lantawan), Sitio Upper Maubog, Barangay Tibagon in Pantukan.

They immediately burned the truck, with plate number WAO-662.

The perpetrators then fled.

After knowing the incident, Lt. Col Michael Licyayo, the 46th IB commanding officer, immediately sent troopers to secure the area as the Pantukan Police Station conducted an investigation.

Licyayo denounced the rebel’s violent activity.

“This burning incident is a pure act of terrorism and shows that these lawless armed elements are terrorists and have no respect for human rights,” he said.
