DWDD: NPA, AFP clash in Zamboanga Del Sur

Around ten members of New People’s Army (NPA) confronted the military in a Zamboanga Del Sur encounter past 1 p.m. yesterday.

Based on the report of Lt. Col. Virgilio Hamos, Jr., commanding officer of 53rd Infantry Battalion of Philippine Army, their troops went to Brangay Mati in the town of Tigbao after they received an intel report about the NPA men who extort money among the residents.

According to Hamos, when the soldiers arrived, they were immediately greeted by gunshots hailed from the rebels’ camp, to which they fired back.

The gunfight lasted for seven minutes until the rebels withdrew for their escape.

Meanwhile, Hamos added that no one was hurt among the troops during the encounter.

Recovered from the area were four cellphones, .45 caliber guns, bullets and others.
