From the Philippine News Agency (Feb 24): 2 rebels killed, assorted weapons seized in Capiz

Two New People's Army (NPA) rebels were killed while two shotguns and two hand grenades recovered following an encounter with the 61st Infantry Battalion troops in Maayon town, Capiz province Friday afternoon.

The 30-minute clash took place around 3:40 p.m. at Sitio Maknoy, Barangay Jebaca, according to 3rd Infantry Division spokesperson Lt. Col. Ericson Rosana.

Government troops were conducting combat operations when they encountered around seven rebels under a certain Romulo Gangoso alias "Rigan."

In the ensuing firefight, two rebels were immediately killed, prompting the remaining rebels to immediately flee, leaving behind their dead comrades and weapons.

There were no reported casualty on the government side as pursuit operations by the 61st Infantry Battalion continue.
