Gen. Año visits EastMinCom to explain security plan 'Kapayapaan'

From the Philippine News Agency (Jan 25): Gen. Año visits EastMinCom to explain security plan 'Kapayapaan'

Armed Forces Chief of Staff General Eduardo M. Año visited Eastern Mindanao Command (EastMinCom) at the Naval Station Felix Apolinario in Panacan, Davao City at noon on Wednesday, January 25.

General Año was accorded with military honors and received by Lt. General Rey Leonardo B. Guerrero, commander of EastMinCom.

During his visit, he comprehensively explained the new AFP Development Support and Security Plan "Kapayapaan" particularly its four strategic concepts.

The strategic concepts include the sustainability of military operations against terrorist groups, support to the peace process with peace-inclined groups, support to anti-criminality and drug syndicates and support to national development.

The visit also provided Gen. Año the opportunity to look into the present effort of EastMinCom in sustaining its gains for peace and its on-going disaster response efforts.

Some of the areas of the command were heavily affected by floods and landslides as heavy rains continue for the past days due to the tail-end of the cold front that is affecting most parts of eastern Mindanao.

Año also encouraged the troops to live with the AFP tradition of Honor, Service and Patriotism and adhere to the International Humanitarian Law, the Rule of Law, and respect to Human Rights.

Gen. Año was once a member of Team EastMinCom when he served as the commander of 10th Infantry (Agila) Division of the Philippine Army based in the town of Mawab in Compostela Valley province.

The visit on Wednesday was the first since he assumed post as Chief of Staff of AFP last December 7, 2016.
