From Update.Ph (Dec 13): President Duterte convenes National Security Council

Presdient Rodrigo Duterte has convened the National Security Council (NSC) December 12 at the Aguinaldo State Dining Room in Malacañang. The said meeting is the second under the Duterte administration.

Seen attending the National Security Council meeting were Senate President Aquilino Pimentel III, National Security Adviser Hermogenes Esperon Jr., National Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana, Foreign Affairs Secretary Perfecto Yasay, Jr., Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II, Armed Force of the Philippines Chief-of-Staff Eduardo Año, Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process Jesus Dureza, and other high ranking government officials.
 
Among the agenda of the meeting included a discussion on the security situation of the country, the ongoing peace talks with the communist groups and the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) and Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), and updates on the administration’s campaign against illegal drugs among others.

The NSC’s function is to advise the President with respect to the integration of domestic, foreign, and military policies relating to the national security. It is also said that it serves as the President’s principal arm for coordinating these policies among various government departments and agencies in matters involving the national security.
