Muslim boy killed in Basilan explosion

From the Mindanao Examiner (Dec 4): Muslim boy killed in Basilan explosion

An eight-year old Muslim boy was killed by an explosion on Sunday in Basilan province in southern Philippines where security forces were battling Abu Sayyaf rebels.

The boy’s family blamed the military for the accident, saying, the army was targeting Abu Sayyaf rebels near Al-Barka town when it fired several rounds of artillery. The army is investigating the reports, but officials did not release any statement.

Photos of the dead boy were also posted on Facebook which showed injuries in the head and body.

Troops had been pursuing the Abu Sayyaf in the province and are believed holding 6 Vietnamese sailors kidnapped in November off Basilan, one of 5 provinces under the Muslim autonomous region.
