More troops from Joint Task Force (JTF) Sulu has been deployed in the towns of Patikul and Talipao in Sulu province as part of military's efforts to "win the hearts and minds" of residents in those areas known as enclaves of the terrorist Abu Sayyaf Group.

Col. Jesus Manangquil, JTF Sulu commander, said 11 platoons have been deployed to enhance ties between military and local government units (LGUs) in combating the terror threat, as well as ensure economic development of the province.

"We will be there to help our constituents to alleviate their lives and be more fruitful citizens," he said.

Under the "Bayanihan" program, military units are immersed in communities to provide assistance in livelihood, medical and dental care in partnership with LGUs and non-government organizations.
