Ex-militiaman reportedly slain by communist rebels

From the Mindanao Times (Dec 14): Ex-militiaman reportedly slain by communist rebels

THE MAN who was found dead in Poblacion Toril around 6:30 a.m. on Sunday was identified as a former militiaman allegedly killed by New People’s Army rebels at Purok 4, Sitio Magsaysay, Barangay Catigan in Toril District.

Based on the investigation of SPO1 Danilo Alngog of Toril Police Precinct, Joven Owis, assigned to the 72nd Infantry Battalion, personally identified the victim as Arnes John Belle Tayu, 24, resident of Barangay Sibulan, Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur.

Owis told police that around 8 a.m. of Dec. 10, Tayu was at helping Dencio Andian ground coffee when 12 armed men and two women arrived and grabbed the victim. Tayu’s hands were tied before he was brought to Sitio Cabarisan of same barangay.

Owis also revealed that in 2009, the victim’s father, identified as Ben Tayu, was also killed by the NPA. The victim reportedly killed a certain Judy Landas, an alleged member of the NPA, last August 2014 to avenge his father’s death.

Landas’ wife did not pursue the case. Further investigation revealed that the victim earlier surrendered to the police Oplan Tokhang in Barangay Atan-awe in Toril District.
