The Philippine Army’s 12th Infantry Battalion (12 IB) in Banga town, Aklan, has opened a farm for former communist rebels.
Last Wednesday, the unit opened a two-hectare integrated farm in Camp Jizmundo.

Brigadier General Jon Aying, 3rd Infantry Division (3rd ID) commander, said the farm was patterned after the wellness project in Camp Gerona, Negros Occidental, when he was still with the 303rd Infantry Brigade (303rd IB).
It provided livelihood to former communist rebels as they became farmers. They earned from planting and harvesting vegetables. They also raised ducks, hogs and boars.
Lieutenant Colonel Leomar Jose Doctolero, 12th IB commander, said the integrated farm is one of the battalion’s projects for its 44th founding anniversary.
Doctolero added the project is supported by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA), Philippine Fiber Development Authority (PFDA), and the Banga local government.
