Russia ready to sell arms and weapons to PHL

From the Philippine News Agency (Nov 29): Russia ready to sell arms and weapons to PHL

Russia is ready to supply the sophisticated arms and weapons that the Philippines needed, Russian Ambassador to the Philippines Igor Khovaev said on Tuesday.

He said Russia produce and manufacture state of the art weapons and armaments that can match other western made weapons.

“Russia can produce highly sophisticated weapons for different purposes. We have advance technologies, we have highly skilled engineers and we have highly developed defense industry,” Khovaev told reporters at the weekly Pandesal Forum in Quezon City.

He said their products have been proven effective in so many instances and they continue to make innovations to outsmart other countries producing the same.

“We are not only selling weapons and armaments but we are also transferring technology to interested parties,” he pointed out.

According to Khovaev, they are ready to assist their partners in training and maintenance of arms and weapons that they supply.

He also said they are likewise ready to help their partners with the necessary assistance in order to create their own defense.

Russia failed to win the hearts of Filipinos when they lost in the arms bidding to purchase warplanes during the Aquino administration. South Korea was given the mandate to manufacture the needed warplanes.

He refused to give details why they lost in the bidding as he argued that Russian weapons are of quality and can match even the most sophisticated state of the art weapons made by other arms makers.

The ambassador even claimed that the New People’s Army purchased their weaponry and can prove how effective their arms are.

“All I can say is, we supply the most sophisticated weapons and armaments and we can prove this in many ways,” he stressed.

He added that they are looking forward to the two countries to iron out an arms deal as he reminded that the Philippines should not worry if the United States decides to stop selling arms and weapons to the Philippines, for Russia has a variety of arms and weapons to choose from.
