Gov't worker held hostage for 3 months freed; 8-yr-old son still a captive

From ABS-CBN (Nov 16): Gov't worker held hostage for 3 months freed; 8-yr-old son still a captive

A government employee who was abducted last August 5 in Payao, Zamboanga Sibugay has been released in Sulu Monday evening, a top ranking official of Sulu police confirmed.
Senior Supt. Mario Buyuccan, provincial director of Sulu PNP, said Tuesday that Elmer Romoc was released by the Abu Sayyaf Group in Jolo town.

He said Romoc was immediately transported to Zamboanga City just hours after his release.
Chief Supt. Billy Beltran, PNP regional director for Western Mindanao, said it was the Anti-Kidnapping Group who led the operation, which resulted in the safe release of Romoc.
However, Romoc's 8-year-old son has remained a captive of the bandits in Sulu.

Romoc, his wife Nora and son were abducted while having dinner inside their house in the village of Kulisap in Payao.

Armed men clad in military uniform forcibly dragged the Romoc family to a nearby river, where a motorized pump boat was waiting.

On August 23, Romoc's wife was released by the Abu Sayyaf Group after allegedly paying a hefty ransom.

Chief Insp. Jerry Labrador, chief of police of Payao, said the Romoc family has been negotiating with the kidnappers for the safe release of Elmer and his son.
