Former rebels benefit in CLIP

From the Philippine Information Agency (Nov 29): Former rebels benefit in CLIP

Two former members of New People’s Army (NPA) who surrendered to 58th Infantry Battalion received a total of P166,000 fire arm cost remuneration from the Comprehensive Local Integration Program (CLIP) of the Province of Misamis Oriental on 28 November 2016 at Provincial Training Center, Cagayan de Oro City.

In a simple awarding ceremony, Sanggunian Panlalawigan Board Member Gerardo Sabal III handed the checks to the former rebels.

He was assisted by Provincial Director Edward P Bhagwani, Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG); Emelia P Andea, head, Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO); Col Eric C Vinoya, 403rd Infantry Brigade commander; and Ltc Francis P Carandang, 58th IB commander.

Aside from the cost remuneration of their fire arms, the awardees also received their immediate cash assistance worth P15,000 each last 28 July 2016 at the Office of the DILG Misamis Oriental.

Director Bhagwani said the implementation of CLIP, in partnership with the local government units (LGUs), the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Philippine National Police (PNP), Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and civil society organizations (CSOs), demonstrates the commitment of the government to pursue lasting peace and development amid the stalled peace talks with the National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP).

CLIP is being spearheaded by the DILG as part of the government's peace and development efforts across the country.

The rebels laying down of firearms and becoming part of a peaceful society will have a corresponding assistance in bringing back to their normal lives. (58IB/PA)
