U.S.-Philippine counternarcotics cooperation leads to two consecutive drug seizures at NAIA

From the Philippine Information Agency (Oct 20): U.S.-Philippine counternarcotics cooperation leads to two consecutive drug seizures at NAIA

The U.S. Embassy in the Philippines would like to commend the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Inter Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group (NAIA IADITG) and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) for two seizures in the past week at NAIA: one on October 15, of 6.2 kg of cocaine, and one on October 17, of 4.3 kg of cocaine, in addition to other substances.  These are respectively the third and fourth drug seizures at NAIA this month based on tips from DEA.

In both cases, the U.S. Embassy’s DEA Office received information about potential contraband aboard an incoming international flight.  DEA shared this information with the NAIA IADITG, led by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).  The Philippine Bureau of Customs discovered the contraband in the subjects’ checked luggage and arrested them.  PDEA seized approximately 6.2 kg of cocaine on October 15, and 4.3 kg of cocaine plus 677 grams of a synthetic stimulant commonly known as “bath salts” on October 17.

The NAIA IADITG is a multi-agency task force led by PDEA established in a cooperative effort between the Philippine and U.S. governments. The U.S. government provides training, equipment, and infrastructure support. (US Embassy Manila)
