ASG member gunned down for grabbing firearm of arresting officer in Tawi-Tawi

From the Philippine News Agency (Oct 18): ASG member gunned down for grabbing firearm of arresting officer in Tawi-Tawi

A member of the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG), wanted for serious illegal detention and kidnapping, was shot and killed after he allegedly tried to grab the firearm of one of his arresting officers in Tawi-Tawi Monday afternoon.

The incident took place 1:00 p.m. at Barangay Magsagaw, Panglima Sugala, said Western Mindanao Command spokesperson Major Filemon Tan.

He identified the slain ASG as Ustab Anji.

Seized from the suspect's possession was a .45 caliber pistol and a fragmentation grenade.
Tan said Anji was arrested initially by members of Marine Landing Team Landing-9 and the Panglima Sugala Police.

While headed towards the police facility, the bandit allegedly tried to grab the weapon of one of the escorting officers, prompting other security men to shot him dead.

The suspect has pending cases of serious illegal detention and kidnapping, Tan added.

Anji was also involved in the Sidapan hostage in 2000 and had a monetary reward of PHP350,000.

He was also tagged in the recent kidnappings of Indonesian and Malaysian nationals.

The military has already coordinated with the local police for the proper disposition of the suspect's cadaver.
