From the Philippine News Agency (Sep 22): Navy units helping in Batanes relief, rehab efforts

Navy units are in the thick of the campaign to rehabilitate "Ferdie"-ravaged Batanes Island.

This includes troops from the 92nd Marine Company, a unit of the Marine Security and Escort Group, Naval Forces Northern Luzon (NFNL) public affairs office chief Lt. (JG) Burns Sabado said in a message to the Philippines News Agency on Thursday.

The 92nd Marine Company is now deployed in Basco, Batanes and helping in the ongoing humanitarian assistance and disaster response operations being conducted, he added.

As the naval component of Northern Luzon Command, NFNL was appointed to lead the Joint Task Force Batanes which will monitor and take charge of the relief efforts being conducted by NOLCOM, Sabado disclosed.

Joint Task Force Batanes is commanded by NFNL deputy commander Capt. Nichols A. Driz.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) earlier announced that is now focusing to early recovery operations for Batanes Island.

"There is now an ongoing coordination with the Regional DRRM (Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council) for the formation of a Post Disaster Needs Analysis Team to be deployed in Batanes," NDRRMC executive director Ricardo Jalad said.

Also, a Psycho-social Stress Debriefing Team had left for Batanes Tuesday to help assist typhoon victims traumatized by typhoon "Ferdie".

Jalad also said restoration of toppled power and communication lines are now ongoing.
